How We Met~
It was sometime in November 2005 and I had gone to the Green Hills Corner Pub with my friend Drennon to meet up with some friends. We walked into the Pub and the tallest most cuddly looking cowboy (boots, hat, wranglers, and all) walked right up to us and gave Drennon the biggest bear hug I had ever seen. He bent down (too tall for most doorways) and walked out the door. I remember leaning over to Drennon and asking her if that was someone she was interested in and she just smiled and said, “No girl…that’s Nick…Mary Garmon’s brother…Why? Are you?” Little did I know, Drennon, one of the best matchmakers in the greater Nashville area, took it upon herself to make a phone call to Mary letting her know that a friend had asked about her brother. Ironically, a few months prior, my friends Hugh and Stefanie had told me that they might set me up with an artist/cowboy, Nick Garmon, but it had fallen through the cracks. I called Hugh that night from the Pub…told him I had run into Nick and Hugh took over from there. Not one week later I went to the Pub again, this time with Nancy, Claudia, and a couple other girls. By that time word had gotten out that I may have some interest in Nick Garmon (I had no clue that everyone in town knew him and word spread…FAST). To this day I don’t know if it was planned but the girls and I sat at the Pub talking at one of the tall top tables and in walked Nick. The girls were all kicking me under the table telling me I should go over and introduce myself. He walked over to the bar, sat down and ordered a Shiner Bock…his favorite beer. Nancy walked over to talk to him while the other girls continued to pressure me into going over to him. I don’t know where the courage came from but I stood up, walked over, ordered a drink, and Nancy introduced us. The next thing I knew…the girls were leaving to go downtown. Being a work night…I needed to stay near the house…so the girls left me there…Nick and I talked till midnight…and the rest, as they say, is history…
The Proposal~
August 29, 2008~ Nick and I had made plans with Marte, Catlin, Casey, Coque, Greg, and some others for dinner at Papa Boudreaux (our favorite Cajun joint in Fly, TN). I had driven out to Nick’s place in Primm Springs so that we could ride together. Earlier that day Nick had called and told me that he had bought me something special…so of course…as soon as I saw him, just like a little kid, I asked…”so…what’d ya get me”???? He picked up a little blue jewelry box and inside was something I had wanted for SO long….a horseshoe necklace! I asked him where he got it and he said it was from the Tractor Supply store. LOL! So incredibly romantic. I love that necklace so much! Nick walked outside and pulled his white truck up while I finished getting ready. I walked outside and Nick was standing beside the truck waiting for me. He had a nervous smile on his face and I noticed a little black box in his hand. I looked at him, asked him what the box was, looked at the box, eyes were wide open. He smiled, kissed me, opened the box (and inside was the most sparkly beautiful ring I had ever seen), I looked at him, back at the box, back at him, back at the box…asked if he was kidding, if it was a joke…(keep in mind tractor supply was still on my mind)…he said, ”I don’t joke about something like this”….and asked, ”So…whatta ya say?” in his low country boy accent…I was still in shock at this point and it took me a minute but finally I asked, ”Well, what’s the question?” That’s when he asked, “Will you marry me?” and I said “Of course!”. We hugged and before I knew it we were off to Papa Boudreaux. It took me a minute before I realized how perfectly he had planned this…he waited till we were outside…with no phone service for hours…I had just gotten engaged and could call NO ONE. I finally said…”Hey, I cant call anyone!”….and he just laughed…he knew exactly what he was doing…and then to my and Nick’s surprise, out of no where, my Dad, Dan shows up just to be with everyone and was able to join in the celebration at Papa Boudreaux. Dad was blown away and told Nick to take good care of me and that he had my Dad’s approval after the fact to marry me……he said, how can you argue with BIG NICK!!!!
